Apple Keynote

Image
In the most recent Apple keynote they unveiled their newest edition of the Apple Watch.  There were new features added to this watch such as a sort of "fall monitor."  It used accelerometers whiten the watch to realize if you have fallen down.  Should you be badly hurt from the fall it can help notify emergency services with your exact location.  A LifeAlert built into your watch.  This would be especially useful and exciting for all the elderly folk itching to get their hands on the latest and greatest Apple products.  Another key feature that was talked about was an updated size and weight.  They managed to make the watch lighter and thinner while at the same time increasing battery life and making the screen better.  Something that is actually exciting and impressive.  This watch will easily sell well.  I mean come on, it was designed by Apple in California, how could it not.  This will introduce new buyers to the Apple Watch and...

Nike's Controversial Week

Image
This re-vamp of Nike's marketing campaign "Just Do It." seems to be a great move for business.  Using Colin Kaepernick as the face of this new campaign will generate more sales for Nike in the long-run as well as now in the short-run.  Supporters were glad to see Nike taking the side of an activist that they support.  He has become the face of a movement and seeing a large company like Nike support him, validates him that much more.  However, this did not all go over well with everyone.  People who disagreed with the actions that Colin Kaepernick took when he was in the NFL were very against this move.  Some even going as far as to burn their own Nike products that they bought with their own money.  After this new campaign, Nike's sales online increased a whopping 31%.  Initially the stock price did take a 3% hit, but now has made up for that 3% and has risen even more.  In conclusion, I think this was a well calculated risk that Nike ...

WalMart’s Tropickle

Image
Brands have gotten to the point where they need to develop unique products in order to set themselves apart from the rest of the pack.  The prices are about as low as they can get so stores need to make new incentives to shop at their stores over the competitors.  Tropickles and other foods like it are how they can.  This is Walmart's response to Amazons acquisition of Whole Foods signifying their jump into the "food game."  To me, these products sound gross because of how unnatural they made a generally natural thing.  I also refuse to shop at Walmart for personal reasons so I am biased against them.  Amazon's jump into the food market is scary for others already in it because if they can do what they did to book stores it does not look good for smaller chains.

Customer Experience

Image
REI is a leading retailer for outdoor goods.  And for good reason.  They place a lot of emphasis on customer experience, which keeps the customers coming back after each good shopping trip they have at the store.  In addition to the competitive prices that they offer they provide many other benefits to shop at their stores.  Should you need to return a product for any reason, they are known for having an amazing return policy.  These returned items go towards another benefit they provide to REI store members - REI Garage Sales.  They take lightly used or open box products and sell them at store "garage sales" for discounted prices to their members.  Shoppers can really get good deals this way.  Shopping at the store is also just plain fun.  The people working there are always very knowledgeable and happy to be there to help and inform you.  In addition to that you can just sign a waiver and get climbing at some stores with their indoor r...
